Let’s be real: What kid doesn’t think temporary tattoos are like, the coolest thing ever? Having grown up with much older siblings who all already had their share of tattoos, I couldn’t wait until the day I was old enough to have my own- so for the time being, I saved every damn quarter I had for those awesome flaming skulls and barbed wire wrap-around temporary tats from the little machines at the grocery store. Needless to say, today’s temporary tattoos have come a long way since my sparkly, baby blue “100% Angel” bicep piece.
Regardless of how much better kids (and adults) have it today as far as the sophistication of modern-day temporary tattooing- it’s safe to say that nothing makes you feel better or exponentially cooler than having a beautiful work of art on your body to showcase to the world… whether it’s real or not.
New-Zealand based artist Benjamin Lloyd knows that. And that’s why he’s made it his mission to bring a smile to the face of all the sick children he can by giving them beautiful, unbelievably realistic custom airbrushed tattoos.
Lloyd has been airbrushing intricate tattoos for over 10 years- but only recently began doing so on children, who’s reaction was remarkable.
“It’s just amazing watching their confidence and their ego boost up,” Lloyd told Mashable.
A video of Lloyd airbrushing a large custom black and grey piece on a little boy named Jun hit the internet and quickly went viral- and it got Lloyd’s wheels turning. He took to Facebook where he pledged that he would airbrush all of the sick children at Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital if he got 50 likes- and then he got 420,000 instead.
Check out the video below from the New York Post to watch Lloyd at work. These beautiful works of art are such a unique act of kindness from Lloyd, someone who’s only interest is to boost the confidence of children battling illness. It’s one of the most heart-warming, beautiful things we’ve ever seen. Keep up the good work, Benjamin. We applaud you.
